What Makes a Must de Cartier Timepiece Worth Collecting?
At LOUISE ROW, we often get asked "Is vintage Cartier really worth it?" Our answer? Absolutely -- the pieces are unique, more rare and a better price then retail. The Must de Cartier collection is a particular favorite for both value and style.
Originally introduced in the 1970s, Must de Cartier was designed to be more accessible while still delivering on Cartier's signature elegance. Today, it is one of the most beloved entry points into collecting vintage luxury and the market is heating up!
What to Look for in a vintage Cartier de Must Piece?
- Two-Tone or Gold Vermeil. Don't underestimate gold-plated models. With the right care, they age gracefully and offer classic styling at a fraction of the full-gold price.
- Condition, condition, condition. Look for clean dials, and signs of servicing. Keeping in mind most vintage items are pre-loved (!), meaning there will be many signs of wear and aging, in the way of patina and scratches. Many quartz models from the 1980s and 1990s are still ticking -- and some with a little restoration ( a new strap, a professional cleaning) can be restored beautifully.
- Case Size Matters. Vintage Cartier watches tend to run small, which is very on trend at the moment. 23- 31 mm cases are typical, perfect for elegant understated wear.
Why Collectors Love It
- Heritage Without the Hype: Must de Cartier isn't mass produced today, and its scarcity adds charm.
- Timeless Design: Roman numeral, sapphire cabochons, and simple leather straps, always chic.
- Accessible Luxury: Many pieces fall under $3000, making them ideal for gifting and collecting.
